Brief: Combining my love for music and candles I developed a new brand and product called Synesthesia Candles. It is a multisensory experience that pairs the senses through a harmonious blend of music discovery, memorable scents, and visual patterns.

Before I began designing I started brainstorming a product that I could create with a unique selling point. After completing competitor research, I combined my love for music and and candles into Synesthesia, a candle company that markets a multisensory experience towards a target audience of women between the ages of 15-45. Synesthesia’s purpose is to pair the senses through a harmonious blend of music discovery, memorable scents, and visual patterns. I developed the product by finding specific scents, pairing them with curated Spotify playlists, melting the wax into containers, and creating a brand identity.
Synesthesia is when you experience one of your scents through another, so I developed this brand experience to accentuate the scents (stimulates smell) of the candles through vibrant patterns on the label (stimulates sight) and correlating music (stimulates listening). After I developed the brand, I began sketching out logo ideas and implementing its core values into my final design.
I developed brand guidelines including color palette and typography. The primary colors of black and white are simple and bold across all products while the secondary colors within the patterns of each candle are different in support of every diverse scent and mood. I used a script brush font for the variety of the candle to mimic the organic flow of a candle flame while pairing it with a more legible typeface for the descriptions of the scents.
How do the candles work? First you download the Spotify app and open the camera function in the search bar. You scan the code on the label and light the candle as it links you directly to a correlating music playlist to enjoy as the candle burns.
